Postdoc Biomedical Materials Focus Area BMM

The AO is a medically guided, not-for-profit organization led by an international group of surgeons specialized in the treatment of trauma and disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Founded in 1958 by 13 visionary surgeons, the AO fosters one of the most extensive networks of over 215,000 surgeons, operating room personnel, and scientists in over 100 countries.

The mission of the AO Research Institute Davos (ARI) is excellence in applied Preclinical Research and Development within trauma and disorders of the musculoskeletal system and translation of this knowledge to achieve more effective patient care worldwide. The ARI contributes high quality applied Preclinical Research and Development (exploratory and translational) focused towards clinical applications/solutions as well as investigates and improves the performance of surgical procedures, devices and substances. It fosters a close relationship with the AO medical community, academic societies, and universities and provides a research environment and support for AO clinicians.


We are looking for a

Postdoc Biomedical Materials Focus Area

Regenerative Orthopedics Program

Topic: Soft biomaterials for regenerative medicine. The successful candidate will contribute developing hydrogels for 3D bioprinting and tissue engineering/regenerative medicine of the musculoskeletal system. The position is within a collaboration with the Baltic Biomaterials center of Excellence in Riga, Latvia (https://bbcentre.eu/), and the successful candidate will be involved also in educational activities to share best practices between ARI and BBCE.

Requirements: The candidate must be very self-motivated and have a strong interest in the research topic. The ideal candidate has excellent laboratory skills in chemically modifying soft biomaterials to tailor their chemical, biological and rheological properties and holds a PhD degree in a relevant discipline. Experience in 3D bioprinting, cell encapsulation, culture of MSCs and immune cells and related biochemical assays is a plus.

Eligibility to apply and obtain a Visa for temporary residence in Switzerland is essential.

We require good English language skills, a work etic suitable to the challenges we plan to offer. Familiarity with cross-cultural/interdisciplinary environment is an advantage.
